Course Overview
The aim of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to perform first, second and third-party audits of environmental management systems against ISO 14001:2015, in accordance with ISO 19011 and ISO/IEC 17021.
This course is certifed by the CQI and IRCA and satisfies the training requirements for individuals seeking registration under the IRCA EMS Auditor Registration Scheme.

Course Description
This training course will provide you with the basis to become a competent Lead Auditor, including via the following:
- Explain the role of an auditor in planning, conducting, reporting and follow-up of audits as per ISO 14001, ISO 19011 and ISO/IEC 17021
- Benefits of improving environmental performance
- Plan-Do-Check-Act framework
- Explain the interrelationship between management responsibility, environmental policy, environmental planning, implementation of policy, operational control, checking of performance, management review and continual management
- Concepts and terminology defined in the standard
- Explain the benefits of third-party accredited certification of environmental management systems for organizations and stakeholders
- Explain the purpose of and differences among first-party, second-party and third-party certification audit of management systems
Recommended prior knowledge
The students are expected to know the following prior to attending this course:
- The concept of environmental sustainable development
- An understanding of how to establish an environmental management system
- Environmental aspects with due consideration to emissions into air and water, consumption of energy, release onto land, use of raw materials and natural resources
- Evaluation of activities, products and services in order to identify normal and abnormal conditions
- Environmental law
